Guy and I decided to take a vacation to Yellowstone National Park this summer and come home by way of Mount Rushmore. Simple enough – As we started planning our trip and telling our friends, they said, “Oh, you can’t go to Yellowstone and not see the Grand Tetons, and some asked if we were going to National Glacier Park, so we decided to take another look at our itinerary.

Well looking at the map we figured since we were so far up north, we just as well see National Glacier Park and what the heck go on to Lake Louise, Canada.  Wow!!  What a trip.  For us Cajuns from down the Bayou, that would be a wonderful trip.  All those majestic mountains!!!.

To see the Grand Tetons, we stayed in Riverton, Wyoming. Didn’t realize it would take 2 hours to get to the Tetons from

that spot. You know places sure look a lot closer on a map.

Near there in St. Stephens, Wyoming we attended Mass at the St. Stephens Indian Mission. The décor of the church in and out,   including the stained glass windows, is in the Arapaho Indian culture. The altar is designed like a drum. To appreciate it further you may want to link to their web site www.ssimf.com.  We just happened to be there on the Sunday they had a picnic after the Mass. What luck.

From there we headed to Yellowstone National Park.  Such beauty!!   Our first day in Yellowstone was spent traveling the upper loop.  Mountains, waterfalls, hot springs, and of course a bison here and there.  Every curve in the road was a pull over to take pictures and, of course, I made Guy stop at every one…..well almost everyone.  Second day same experience with pictures on the lower loop.

Canada was our next stop.  We stayed in Canmore, Canada for a week. It was cold and rainy when we arrived and that was just fine with me.  I had had enough of the hot weather. We spent our first full day playing cards (“hand and foot”, of course) in the coach.  Visited Lake Louise, Baniff and rode towards Jasper, beautiful scenery.

Our next stop was National Glacier Park.  I figured I would be disappointed after the Canadian Rockies, but it was just as beautiful.

Every place we visited had its own unique beauty.  What a wonderful and beautiful country we live in. We continued on towards home stopping to see the Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials in South Dakota, and visit friends in Branson. We were away a total of 5-1/2 weeks and we really had a great time, but we were really glad to get home to our wonderful Cajun Country.
